Journey

Most people often care about the goal itself rather than the journey. Often are they reminded to stop for a while and admire the road that they are traveling. Whether they take heed of these advices depends upon their ideologies. To some, taking a break once in a while is refreshing while others are so intent on the goal that they can't even afford a moment of rest in their path.

Goal and journey are two separate components of an entity which we call quest. A quest is done in order to achieve something or simply because one is interested in the adventure itself. Regardless, both goal and journey are required for a quest. Without a goal, you will not embark on a journey, neither can you reach your goal without embarking on a journey.

As mentioned before, which part of the quest; goal or journey, is more important is a thing which differs for each individual. But it is seen that people tend to emphasize a lot on the goal more often than not.

But this is not true for every quest. There are some in which the individual will never stop to think about his goal and instead will be intent on his journey itself. But how could this be?? Is a person not selfish in nature? To be focused on that which yields no interests for him, is it not a waste? Yes it is. Then why will he not be interested in that which he wishes to acheive? Answer is, he will undoubtedly be interested in his goal but in case of this peculiar quest, he does not know what his goal is and consequently can't focus on a non-existent goal.

While it is a suitable explanation, it is not entirely a detailed explanation. As mentioned before, without a goal, there could be no quest. Since it is a quest that we are talking about, how so ever peculiar, it will still have a goal i.e. the individual will perceive a goal in the course of the quest. Only, he will not perceive the actual goal. What he will think to be his goal will be only a temporary one and thus he moves in his journey to acheive the apparent goal, without having a clear knowledge of the actual goal of his quest.

In the course of the peculiar quest, some will achieve their apparent goal, which will then leave them empty because the quest will not end until they achieve the true goal of that quest. Their emptiness remains until they set another goal for themselves.

Majority will not even achieve their falsely perceived goal which will render them unable to focus on anything else, let alone the true goal. As a result, they will be lost in their journey. They will be lost without a goal in their sight, until eventually they get to start over again. But they must be pitied. For, from the moment they loose sight of their goal to the moment they get to start over again, they suffer enormous torment. In a journey where they had known nothing from whence they came, and where they had to go, to loose sight of a beacon, even if it were only a mirage devastates them. For if they hadn't lost track of that mirage, they would have been able to follow it for a while, even if only to find that it was a mirage, they'd had a direction to go to! But now they're lost! Lost without the knowledge of which direction to go, lost without a compass in the vastness of the illusion! What a tragedy!

Those who do not face the horror of losing their direction even if they had to chase one mirage to another in order to do so, are truly lucky. Lucky yes, but competent, not. Actually, to brand them incompetent is injustice for the quest they are assigned is of vast magnitude which would undoubtedly take them several tries before they acheive the goal.
